MoodWheel - MoodWheel: an ecological momentary assessment tool for mood and its determinants
MoodWheel is an ecological momentary assessment and intervention tool for distress, positive emotions and cognitions, based on the Cognitive-Behavioral Theory (CBT; Ellis, 1962; Beck 1878).The app evaluates users` mood by using self-report measures and also physiological parameters. The mood wheel is the main original instrument developed by Oana David (David, 2013) composed of 32 emotions, which is based on both the circumplex model of emotions and the binary model of distress (Ellis, 1994). The user has to evaluate the intensity of each emotion using a five-point Likert scale in a specific situation. The app incorporates a heart-rate variability measure as a physiological evaluation of distress and a self-report measure for cognitions, based on the most used tool in CBT, the ABC model (Ellis, 1962). Moodwheel also incorporates scientifically validated instruments for cognitions, distress, and positive emotions.
MoodWheel can be used as a standalone tool for assessment and mood
intervention (with the ABC extended model) or as an adjuvant to a counseling or therapeutic process.
